Pleading Ignorance

They all heard, but nobody had ever taken the time to listen. Nobody would ever listen, not until his hands were stained with blood; he could scream to the open sky for no response, just the sound of people passing, smiling to themselves as they drowned out the sound of his voice; they listened to the bells, never to his cries. But nobody could ignore a knife twisted in their skin.
